Tottenham’s early momentum under Thomas Frank has stumbled at the first real hurdle. After dispatching Burnley and Manchester City in impressive fashion, Spurs delivered what many supporters might already consider a nadir under the new head coach: a subdued 1-0 home defeat to Bournemouth that flattered the hosts.
While the defeat marked their first of the campaign, the deeper concern lies in the growing list of unavailable players. Fitness issues continue to dominate Frank’s early tenure, with several senior figures sidelined.

Even the rare positive of Destiny Udogie’s return was overshadowed by the absence of Dominic Solanke, who was expected to lead the line. Tottenham must now navigate the international break without clarity on multiple key players, with West Ham awaiting when domestic action resumes.
Dominic Solanke was a surprise omission from the squad against Bournemouth, with Manor Solomon named on the bench in his place. Frank later confirmed the issue was related to an ankle problem.

“Yeah, got a minor issue with his ankle. That’s been a little bit grumbling also in the pre-season,” the manager explained. “It’s just too much for this game and now we have international break so hopefully he can be ready after that.”
The striker’s unavailability felt critical given Spurs’ reduced attacking depth. With no clear timeline for his return beyond the hope of featuring after the break, the situation remains another new injury concern.

Yves Bissouma’s season has yet to start. Initially omitted from the UEFA Super Cup squad due to disciplinary reasons, he was then ruled out of the Burnley opener following a training injury.
Frank offered little detail: “Unfortunately he got injured in training yesterday so very unfortunate. An injury we look into how much it is.” Before the City match, his update was brief: “Biss will miss this game.”

A precise return date has yet to be offered, deepening the concern around his fitness.

Dejan Kulusevski, meanwhile, represents one of the most prolonged absences in the squad. Sidelined since undergoing knee surgery in May, the Sweden international has not featured since the final stretch of last season.
Frank addressed his condition ahead of the City fixture: “No Kulusevski, he’s out. That’s a longer one, I don’t want to put a timeframe on it.”

Reports suggest a return in early 2026 may be optimistic, with no structured rehab timeline confirmed publicly.
Potential return date: Early 2026
James Maddison’s absence is arguably the most damaging from a creative standpoint. Having ruptured his ACL during a pre-season clash with Newcastle, the midfielder has undergone surgery and is set for an extended spell out.
The club released a statement confirming the procedure: “His surgery will take place in the coming days and, following that, James will then begin his rehabilitation with our medical team. Everyone at Tottenham Hotspur wishes James a full and speedy recovery. We will be supporting him every step of the way.”

Maddison is not expected to return until spring at the earliest.
Potential return date: April 2026
Radu Dragusin offers a slightly more encouraging update. Having suffered an ACL injury in February, he is progressing well and may rejoin team training during the international break.

“Dragusin is on the way back and he’s been running for a while,” Frank said. “I think he should join the team in a week’s time, 10 days’ time, I think that’s the thing, so that’s positive, but of course it is an ACL. I’m always a little bit more, not worried, but just aware that it takes time.”
Kota Takai, a summer arrival, has yet to make his debut due to a plantar fascia problem that curtailed his pre-season involvement.
Frank said: “Kota got a plantar fascia injury, unfortunately we don’t know the scale of it – weeks.”
There has been no further update, making his timeline another unknown.

Bryan Gil, who returned from a loan spell at Girona, remains sidelined following surgery on a knee ligament injury that cut short his time in Spain. He continues to rehabilitate at Hotspur Way.
