Darnell Furlong equalised in the 36th minute and later won the decisive penalty as Ipswich Town beat Charlton Athletic 2-1. His interventions flipped the game for the visitors at The Valley.
The defender stepped up when needed, striking from outside the box into the bottom left corner (36.). It was a clean, early hit that steadied Ipswich after falling behind seconds into the match.
He then forced the key moment after the restart, drawing a foul in the area (57.). The spot kick was converted (58.), capping a personal spell that defined the contest.
Furlong's influence extended beyond the scoreboard. He completed 57 of 71 passes and produced 20 successful final third deliveries, while adding eight recoveries to keep Charlton pinned back. Three clearances underlined his work at the other end.
Because he kept joining and sustaining attacks from deep while recovering into shape, the Tractor Boys controlled the key phases and stopped Charlton from building momentum.
The Tractor Boys sit second after rising from third in the table. They visit West Bromwich Albion next. Charlton host Hull City next.
