Standout star sets Sporting CP on their way | OneFootball

Eduardo Quaresma broke the game open in the 15th minute with a glancing header, as Sporting CP beat Gil Vicente 3-0.

Rising at the back post from a corner, the defender steered his header into the top corner to settle any early nerves and give the hosts control.

From there Quaresma imposed himself in duels. He won three aerial contests and made six clearances as Gil Vicente were pushed to the flanks and forced into low-percentage efforts.

After the restart he stayed calm on the ball, completing 83 of 88 passes from 103 touches to keep Sporting CP circulating possession. He also added one interception and two successful dribbles, stepping out cleanly when space opened.

Because his positioning was sound and his distribution crisp, the back line stayed stable and the midfield could play higher, leaving Gil Vicente little room to build.

The Leões remain second in Liga Portugal and now face Torreense in the Taça de Portugal final. Gil Vicente are sixth.
