Tjaronn Chery opened the scoring in the 19th minute, then dragged NEC Nijmegen to a 2-2 draw with Heerenveen. The 37-year-old levelled after the restart (57.).

Chery first arrived on the right side of the six-yard box and lifted a precise finish into the top right corner, capitalising on space at the back post as NEC Nijmegen started on the front foot.

After Heerenveen turned it around before the break, the midfielder struck again from range, thumping a left-footed effort into the roof of the net from outside the box (57.) after being fed by Kodai Sano.

He finished with six attempts, three on target, plus nine touches in the box. His distribution told too, with 18 successful passes in the final third, keeping NEC Nijmegen on the front foot across key phases.

Because he kept finding pockets between the lines and timing late arrivals into the area, Chery repeatedly unsettled the visitors' back line and provided the hosts with a constant route to goal.
