The attacking output of Inter Milan this season has been relentless, but the numbers also highlight a clear issue when the level of opposition rises.

The Nerazzurri have scored 50 goals in 22 Serie A matches so far. Across Europe’s top five leagues, only Bayern Munich and Barcelona have done better, with 72 and 54 goals respectively, despite playing fewer games.

Overall, Inter have found the net 69 times in all competitions, underlining their firepower and consistency.

However, as La Gazzetta dello Sport points out, via FCInterNews, those goals have not come evenly.

Against top-level opposition, the returns drop sharply.

Inter Milan Must Improve ‘Big Match’ Record

Inter have scored just nine goals in “big matches” so far this season. Seven have arrived in Serie A: three against Napoli across the two meetings, three against Juventus, one against Roma, and none against Milan.

In the Champions League, Inter have scored only twice against elite rivals, with goals against Atletico Madrid and Arsenal.

The contrast is striking when set against the broader data. Inter have scored more than three goals in ten matches this season and have netted at least twice in 19 games.

Yet they have recorded only two wins against teams currently in the top six of the Serie A table.

Statistically, Inter still lead the league in several key attacking metrics.

They rank first for expected goals (44.2), shots on target per match (6.2), touches in the opposition box (771) and corners won (152).

They also top the charts for completed crosses and possessions regained high up the pitch, reflecting an aggressive style built on pressing and quick vertical play.

So far, 15 different Inter players have scored in all competitions, or 14 if Serie A alone is considered. The spread confirms depth and variety, but the challenge now is clear.
