Santos were fined R$ 36,000 by the first Disciplinary Commission of the STJD for delays and a supporter incident during their 1-0 win over Palmeiras at Vila Belmiro in the 13th round of the Brasileirão on 15 November last year. The hearing took place on Wednesday 25.
According to Diario Do Peixe, Santos were fined R$ 6,000 for delays at kick-off and on returning after half-time, and a further R$ 30,000 due to supporters behind the visitors’ bench causing trouble. Palmeiras were also fined R$ 3,000 for a delayed second-half restart.
Referee Raphael Claus noted in his match report that police used force at half-time to remove Santos fans from a box beside the visitors’ dugout. He recorded a three-minute delay to kick-off due to Santos entering late, and a four-minute delay to the restart because both teams returned late. He also cited stoppages for substitutions, ball replacement and treatment of apparently injured players.
Santos were represented by Dr Marcelo Mendes, who submitted video and documentary evidence plus testimony from stadium operations coordinator Sérgio Denys Rodrigues, and requested the drafting of the judgment record. Palmeiras filed a written defence, and the Prosecutor’s Office also submitted video evidence.
Santos were charged under Articles 206 and 213, section I, of the CBJD (Código Brasileiro de Justiça Desportiva). Article 206 covers causing delays to the start or restart, punishable by fines of R$ 100 to R$ 1,000 per minute. Article 213 addresses failure to prevent or quell disorder in a club’s venue, with fines from R$ 100 to R$ 100,000.
