STJD reduces charge as Viery given one-game ban for Gre-Nal red | OneFootball

Centre-back Viery has been handed a one-match ban for his red card in Gre-Nal 452 in round 11, and will serve it against Cruzeiro on Saturday in the Brasileirão. There is no additional punishment.

According to Globo.com, the 6th Commission of the STJD delivered the verdict on Friday, with no further sanction imposed.

He was initially charged under article 254-A, which covers physical aggression during a match and carries a ban of four to 12 games. The panel downgraded it to article 254 for violent play, whose minimum penalty is one match.

The dismissal came on 43 minutes of the second half after he caught Thiago Maia in Grêmio’s attacking half, away from the ball.

Assistant Vitor Severino, part of Luís Castro’s staff, was acquitted but will still serve an automatic suspension against Cruzeiro. He was sent off on 39 minutes of the second half for offensive dissent towards the officials, and faced article 258 for conduct contrary to sporting discipline and ethics.

Also on Friday, executive Bárbara Fonseca was cleared by the STJD in a separate commission over an allegation of racial injury against an Internacional supporter. The matter remains a criminal case too, as she has been indicted by the Civil Police, and she denies the accusation.
