Stockport County booked their place in the League One play-off final with a composed 2-0 victory over Stevenage at Edgeley Park, sealing a 3-0 aggregate win and moving within one match of the Championship.

Already leading after Ben Osborn’s late goal in the first leg, Dave Challinor’s side took control early on and never looked back. Louie Barry opened the scoring after 14 minutes with a brilliant solo effort, cutting inside before curling a fine finish beyond Filip Marschall.

The hosts doubled their advantage before the half-hour mark through Kyle Wootton, whose acrobatic volley from Odin Bailey’s cross took a slight deflection on its way into the top corner.

Stevenage improved after the interval and pushed for a route back into the tie, but Corey Addai produced an outstanding reflex save to deny Charlie Goode from close range. The goalkeeper was called into action again shortly afterwards to keep out Matt Phillips’ low drive.

Stockport comfortably saw out the closing stages and will now head to Wembley to face either Bolton Wanderers or Bradford City, knowing victory would secure a return to the second tier for the first time since 2002.
