This is per a report from Football Insider, who state that the current on-loan Sheffield Wednesday left-back is set to return to Old Trafford at the beginning of next week, following the Owls' trip to QPR on Sunday.

Despite this, Wednesday are hopeful that they can extend the deal until the end of the season, after an excellent opening half to the campaign, where the 18-year-old has featured in every Championship game since his arrival, and won the club's Player of the Month for November.

There should be no doubt that the Red Devils are happy with the young star's development at Hillsborough, but Stoke will be able to put together a better package financially, and they'll be hopeful that that may be enough to persuade Manchester United to relocate Amass.

Pete O'Rourke has reported that Stoke have made contact with Manchester United over the potential loan signing of Amass, after impressing at Sheffield Wednesday in the opening half of the campaign.

Wednesday have endured a torrid time on the field this season. After their squad was gutted due to various contract breaches by former owner Dejphon Chansiri and subsequent embargos placed on the club, Amass was their only outfield addition in the summer transfer window.

Consequently, a slim squad has seen senior players struck down with injury throughout the campaign. However, Amass has been able to stay fit, and he's been a rare bright spark in a dismal campaign at Hillsborough.

Per Fotmob, the 18-year-old has won more duels and completed more dribbles than any other player in his position, and is in the top five per cent of players in his position for tackles won and recoveries.

Therefore, sides further up the table are registering interest, and Stoke are perhaps looking at the 18-year-old to provide a much-needed boost to their fading promotion hopes.

The Potters started the season battling in the top two, but started 2026 outside the play-offs. A much-needed 1-0 win away at Hull City on New Year's Day has put them back within three points of the top six, and Mark Robins' side are eager to capitalise on this momentum in the transfer window.

Amass' initial loan deal at Wednesday is set to run out following Sunday's trip to QPR, and the Premier League side will unlikely want to recall him back to their fold, given the lack of game time he'd receive at Old Trafford.

But whether he remains at Wednesday or gets loaned out elsewhere is still to be seen. Any Championship club would be able to offer more financial contribution than the embargo-stricken Owls, and Stoke will be hopeful that their package will trump Wednesday's in prospective talks.

Sheffield Wednesday holds the key benefit over Stoke City and other Championship clubs regarding Harry Amass loan extension

Ultimately, the decision on where Amass spends the latter half of the campaign will lie with Manchester United, and while financial contribution will play a factor, the happiness of a player will arguably matter more.

The 18-year-old is settled at Wednesday, and per Alex Miller of the Sheffield Star, there's satisfaction across all parties around his development in the opening half of the campaign.

Amass has had to play week in, week out at Hillsborough, and while no one can look at Wednesday's squad situation positively, the fact that it's forced the left-back to expose himself to Championship football consistently could be seen as a personal benefit.

At Stoke, or elsewhere, game time wouldn't be guaranteed at the level that it is at Hillsborough due to squad depth. Jamie Donley, who arrived at the bet365 Stadium in the summer on loan from Tottenham Hotspur with plenty of promise, learned that first-hand, being recalled from Mark Robins' side having made just four Championship appearances.

Manchester United may be looking at that as a factor in whether Stoke should be the destination for Amass post-January, even if the two highly-rated youngsters play in different positions.

The 18-year-old seems settled and happy to be playing at Hillsborough, and that may trump any potential money they could get from a loan deal elsewhere.
