The Potters are going all out for the Northern Irishman

Stoke City are getting closer to sealing the Championship's most shocking transfer so far in the early part of the summer transfer window.

For the eighth year in succession since their relegation from the Premier League, the Potters finished in the bottom half of the Championship table for 2025-26, with Mark Robins unable to push the Staffordshire outfit into the play-off spots in what is becoming a common theme at the bet365 Stadium.

The new SCP financial rules though look to have unlocked new doors for Robins and sporting director Jon Walters. Already having landed a multi-million pound deal for Djibril Soumare of Sporting Braga, who already has Championship experience in the form of a loan stint at Sheffield United, City are poised to land another player for their engine room - but they're going all out for this one.

News has broke early on Tuesday morning that Stoke have had a bid accepted for Swansea City midfielder Ethan Galbraith.

The Potters were recently linked with a swoop for the versatile Northern Ireland international, who turned down a new contract offer with the Swans in April less than a year after joining them from Leyton Orient, having played 39 times in his debut season, scoring three times and notching two assists.

Despite there being Premier League interest recently in the former Man United academy graduate, Galbraith has also had suitors from Sswansea's divisional rivals - Wrexham have been long-time admirers, and FLW exclusively revealed earlier in June that West Ham United were sniffing around the 25-year-old.

Stoke are seemingly going for it in the upcoming campaign, with Wales Online now reporting that they have had a bid that is 'north of £10 million' accepted from the South Wales outfit for the services of a player who can also play at right-back as well as in the middle of the park.

Galbraith will now have to agree personal terms with Stoke, but if that does happen, it will represent a return closer to the North West base that he will have lived when coming through the ranks at Man United, having joined the Red Devils as a teenager.

How Swansea City fans are reacting to Ethan Galbraith news

It's fair to say that there's been some big reactions - mainly in South Wales - to the news that Galbraith looks to be heading to the bet365 Stadium in a bumper eight-figure deal.

One Swansea supporter thinks that Galbraith is making the wrong decision by leaving for a mid-table Championship club.

Another believes that whilst they are getting a decent-sized fee for the Northern Ireland international, there must be issues between the midfielder and the Swansea hierarchy for him to be joining a club like Stoke.

This Swans fan meanwhile believes Galbraith going to Stoke is simply a 'horrid' move for the player.

Whilst another believes that Galbraith is simply going to Stoke for bigger wages, which you assume he will get with what looks set to be a massive transfer fee for Championship level.
