Former Inter manager and current television pundit Andrea Stramaccioni weighed in on Roma‘s new leadership trio of senior advisor Claudio Ranieri, manager Gian Piero Gasperini, and sporting director Frederic Massara.
Stramaccioni, who coached within the Giallorossi’s youth ranks for six years, maintains the club couldn’t have made a better choice ahead of the upcoming season.
“Massara, Gasperini, and Ranieri are three people I know well, each through different paths,” he told Te La Do Io Tokyo.
“The first of the three I got to know was Gasperini—we worked together at Crotone. He had just come out of Juventus’ Primavera setup, and I was barely 24 at the time. Crotone had a partnership with Juve through Franco Ceravolo.”
He continued, “Back then, Juventus had strong ties with several Lega Pro and Serie B clubs, and Gasperini, who was viewed as a promising young coach, was sent there as part of that project. Alongside Beppe Ursino and Ceravolo, he took charge of the team and completely transformed it.”
“He did great things there—(Ivan) Juric was one of his players, actually. I worked closely with him, analysing matches and providing reports, so I have a clear idea of how he thinks and works.”
Adding, “As for Ranieri, I’ve known him since his Roma days. And Massara? He’s a guarantee—professional, reliable, and highly knowledgeable about the game. He was a brilliant number two for years, and now he’s stepping up as the main man.”
“Sure, he may have made a few less successful decisions in the past, but who in football hasn’t?”
“In my opinion, this trio is a great fit for Roma. Massara and Ranieri know the city and the club inside out. With what was available, I don’t think Roma could have made a better choice.”
