Strasbourg secure Europa Conference League top spot | OneFootball

RC Strasbourg Alsace concluded the League Phase of their UEFA Europa Conference League campaign with a 3-1 win over Breidablik on Thursday night, which secured their place atop the standings. It means that Liam Rosenior’s side avoid a play-off tie. 

Sébastien Nanasi opened the scoring in the 11th minute, but Hoskuldur Gunnlaugsson’s well-hit effort went through Mike Penders as the visitors levelled before the break. It took time for Strasbourg to find a breakthrough, but when they did, it came through Martial Godo, who struck the ball into the far corner (80′). 

The Icelandic side had chances to equalise, but the game would be wrapped up in added time by Julio Enciso, who tapped into an open net from just a couple of yards out, as he met Nanasi’s ball across. It means that Le Racing finish top of the Conference League standings. More importantly, their finish inside the top eight means that they avoid a play-off game. They will face either Fiorentina, Rijeka, Jagiellonia, or Omonia in March.
