Three weeks in, Nottingham Forest’s window has been slow, but activity is stirring with the deadline approaching.
Dyche expected a relatively quiet month, yet survival and Europa aims require smart tweaks. According to Nottingham Post, the cut-off is 7pm on Monday, 2 February and January deals are rarely straightforward.
In goal, Matz Sels looks No.1 again after his Arsenal heroics. With John Victor out following knee surgery, Angus Gunn is now No.2, and any reshuffle may wait until summer.
At full-back, Oleksandr Zinchenko’s loan has been curtailed, so left-back cover is needed despite Ola Aina and Neco Williams’ versatility. There have been suggestions Forest bid €15 million for Napoli’s Mathias Olivera, below a €20-25m valuation, and Napoli are reluctant to lose him along with Lorenzo Lucca.
In defence and midfield, Murillo has admirers but a mid-season sale appears unlikely. Elliot Anderson is coveted, while Douglas Luiz’s Juventus loan carries an appearance-based £22 million obligation that Dyche says will not affect selection, amid concern he may not reach 15 league outings of 45 minutes.
Out wide, Dan Ndoye has been floated in swaps, but Forest do not want to be short. Up front is the priority, with Arnaud Kalimuendo joining Eintracht Frankfurt on loan with an option to buy, leaving Igor Jesus leading the line while Chris Wood is injured and Taiwo Awoniyi’s future is uncertain. A loan with option for Lorenzo Lucca is reportedly agreed in principle, but he is yet to decide and is believed to prefer Italy.
