Feyenoord’s Anel Ahmedhodzic may soon return to the Bosnian national team following a near year-long absence after a row with the country’s football association.

Bosnian media, although citing “unofficial sources,” now report that the hatchet appears to be buried and that Ahmedhodzic may return to the national team in October.

Ahmedhodzic’s rift with Bosnia and Herzegovina arose around a Nations League match against the Netherlands. The defender claimed that he received amateurish guidance during an injury, and that it was a situation that had happened before.

Ahmedhodzic then decided to retire from international football, after which he faced a lot of criticism in his home country. Even his own father publicly spoke out against him. Now, however, a return to the national team seems to be on the horizon.

Bosnian newspaper SportSport reported the news on Thursday. Based on “unofficial information,” the outlet writes that there’s a “high” chance Ahmedhodzic will return to the Bosnian national team. The club and federation are reportedly turning over a new leaf. The official reason for this is unknown.

In October, Bosnia will play a World Cup qualifier against Cyprus and a friendly against Malta. The country currently leads qualifying Group H, although Austria, chasing them intently, has played one match less and has the same number of points.

Feyenoord picked up Ahmedhodzic this summer from Sheffield United for just under seven million euros. The 24-cap international has immediately proven to be a valuable asset at De Kuip and so far hasn’t missed a single minute this season.
