Former Sunderland head of recruitment Stuart Harvey has praised the club’s resurgence after becoming Stoke City’s technical director. In a post, he said he has taken the role and is grateful for the opportunity.
He left the Stadium of Light earlier this year amid major off-field changes, with Florent Ghisolfi now overseeing football operations. During a transformative spell he worked with Kristjaan Speakman and others as Sunderland rebuilt from League One to the Premier League.
The momentum has continued, with seventh place under Régis Le Bris securing Europa League qualification for the first time in more than 50 years.
Harvey’s message outlined a period of reflection, learning and development away from a full-time club role, including consultancy work, attending games and enhancing knowledge around data and software. He also thanked those who supported him.
He regards Stoke as a proud club with strong history and a long Premier League spell, and he thanked John Coates and Jonathan Walters for their trust. His focus now is to help the team move forward at the bet365 Stadium and work towards previous levels.
