Stunning 'Icicle Kick' in Canadian final

It’s quickly being dubbed the “icicle kick” — a breathtaking bicycle effort that lit up the Canadian Premier League final.

Played in a snowstorm in Ottawa with temperatures dipping to -8°C, the match had it all — drama, chaos, and some stone-cold finishing.

Home side Atlético Ottawa lifted their first-ever title, the North Star Cup, after a 2-1 extra-time victory over Cavalry FC.

But that simple scoreline barely scratches the surface of what unfolded.

The contest was repeatedly halted as ground staff cleared thick layers of snow, with pitch markings redrawn every 15 minutes and goalkeepers resorting to shovels to clear their own areas. By the second half, conditions were nearly impossible. Before extra-time, even a snowplough had to be brought on.

Former Rangers midfielder Fraser Aird — in short sleeves, no less — put Cavalry ahead from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute, sliding across the snow in celebration before being met with a barrage of snowballs from the home supporters.

Seven minutes later came the highlight: a flash of brilliance from 23-year-old David Rodríguez, whose acrobatic strike cannoned off the underside of the bar and in to level the match. He then sealed Ottawa’s triumph in the 107th minute, lifting a composed chip over Cavalry keeper Marco Carducci. Check out the video below to relive Rodriquez's epic 'Icicle Kick'...
