VfB Stuttgart exited the Europa League on Thursday evening, and the consensus inside the camp was clear, Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa was exceptional.

According to Get German Football News, head coach Sebastian Hoeneß, goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, captain Atakan Karazor and striker Deniz Undav all hailed the 42-cap Portuguese international.

Hoeneß said Stuttgart had good chances and plenty of efforts on target, but accepted the opposing keeper was the outstanding player on the pitch.

Karazor called Costa outstanding and pointed to the 1-0 as rare bad luck at the back.

Nübel said the defeat hurts because Stuttgart performed well across both games, adding that Costa produced his very best on the night.

Undav praised not only spectacular shot-stopping but also the goalkeeper’s distribution and composure, noting he even saved efforts that did not necessarily need saving. He described Costa as the MVP across both games.
