According to Kicker, Stuttgart could move for Caspar Jander if Angelo Stiller departs this summer, leaving Southampton on alert despite a fast start to their window.
Dragan Solak is living up to his claim that Southampton means serious business, with permanent deals for Daniel Peretz and Cyle Larin, and a contract offer on the table for James Bree.
It is not all sunshine at St Mary’s. There is an increasing likelihood that Jander could be off this summer, which would sting after a campaign in which Tonda Eckert’s side suffered a promotion near miss.
Southampton are well stocked in midfield, with Shea Charles and Flynn Downes available. Jander flew under the radar early, then showed control and bite when the pressure rose.
The play-off semi-final second leg win against Middlesbrough, which counted for nothing due to Spygate, was his peak, with 18 tackles and duels won and 72 accurate passes.
If Stiller moves, Stuttgart are expected to target the number 20, and the 23-year-old would be very unlikely to refuse a club bound for the Champions League. It would frustrate Southampton to lose him after only one season on the South Coast, but few would begrudge the chance. For now, the business continues, with Peretz and Larin signed and a redemption push for promotion set to begin.
