Stuttgart’s Deniz Undav lashes out at Borussia Dortmund after Bundesliga loss, explains tussle with Karim Adeyemi | OneFootball

VfB Stuttgart striker Deniz Undav had a little steam to blow off a disappointing loss against Borussia Dortmund in Saturday evening’s Bundesliga “Top-Spiel”. Frustration boiled over after the full-time whistle. Hosts Stuttgart appeared destined to at least hold their Westphalian guests to a 0-0 draw before Dortmund scored twice in second half added time to pull out a 0-2 away victory.

The Bundesliga’s unrivaled “man-of-the-moment” has had a very stressful international break. Undav headed back to the German national team in blazing form. Despite the fact that he did score his fourth DFB goal (a match-winner) in his seventh international cap, German national team head coach Julian Nagelsmann still declared himself largely unimpressed with the 29-year-old’s substitute appearance against Ghana.

Most German press sources concurred with Nagelsmann’s assessment, at the very least questioning if Undav’s marvelous talent for serving in various tactical roles paradoxically rendered him an odd fit for the national team. Undav – who scored a hat trick against Borussia Dortmund in the reverse fixture this season – found himself mocked by another player having difficulty getting onto the Germany squad these days, BVB attacker Karim Adeyemi.

“We were the better team throughout the entire game,” Undav railed in the mixed zone afterwards. “We didn’t get the details right against a team that parked the bus throughout the entire match and got mercilessly punished in the end. They [Dortmund] didn’t really even believe in themselves, but [the fact that they won anyway] is what characterizes BVB’s season.

“There was a provocative goal celebration [from Karim Adeyemi after scoring the 0-1 at 90+4],” Undav continued. “He did it based on the fact that I had done something similar [when scoring the hat trick in the reverse fixture]. Then the fans got upset. We went over there with a few players. Let’s just call it a miscommunication.“
