Big 4-1 home win v SV Ried

Our Red Bulls burst out of the blocks, taking the lead via Clement Bischoff after just 29 seconds. After an equaliser fell on the league debut of Christian Zawieschitzky, Sota Kitano, Edmund Baidoo and Petar Ratkov secured the points.

Match summary

Referee Julian Weinberger's whistle had barely sounded when our lads were already celebrating. After winning the ball – a shot by Petar Ratkov having been blocked seconds earlier – it fell to Clement Bischoff, who, on the left side just outside the penalty area didn't hesitate and expertly placed the ball into the far corner (1').

Our team didn't let up there! Sota Kitano had the next scoring opportunity, this time from the right, but was decisively pushed wide at the last moment (5'). The team, which Thomas Letsch had changed in eight positions compared to the cup match on Thursday, now clearly took control of the match, played with great confidence, and patiently waited for openings. Jacob Rasmussen exploited one of these, playing a long ball to Ratkov. However, our Serbian target man was prevented from getting a shot off by the visiting defence (9').

Kitano & Co. continued to create plenty of pressure, for example during a run by Moussa Yeo that forced Leitner in the visitors' goal to stretch to his full length, but he just managed to prevent the ball from going in (24'). The next opportunity to extend the lead fell to Aleksa Terzic after a good switch of play from Tim Trummer, when he tried to make it 1-0 from almost the same position as our goalscorer, but then fired the ball well over the bar (29').

Towards the end of the first half, the Vikings suddenly gained more control of the game, which would ultimately be reflected in the scoreline. After winning the ball at the halfway line, they moved it to the edge of the penalty area, where Van Wyk turned and found Mutandwa, who scored the equaliser with his left foot (34'). However, Thomas Letsch's charges didn't need long to recover from conceding. An interception by Lucas Gourna-Douath near the halfway line set up our second goal of the afternoon. He passed to Yeo, whose perfectly timed ball to Bischoff was laid off by the Dane to the overlapping Kitano, who put us back in the lead with his fourth goal of the season (45').

The second half started with a bang for SV Ried. After a long throw-in to Bischoff, Havenaar could only stop our lightning-fast attacker by grabbing hold of him. The way to the Ried goal would have been clear, so a red card for the defender had to result (49').

With a man advantage, Thomas Letsch's men immediately tried to extend their lead: Maurits Kjaergaard tried his luck from distance, but his effort from around 20 metres out posed little challenge for the visiting goalkeeper (52'). The goalkeeper was also a fraction of a second ahead of the onrushing Kitano shortly afterwards (56'). Moments later, Yeo found himself in a promising position again, but couldn't connect properly with the ball (58').

Edmund Baidoo did much better, firing home from the edge of the penalty area after Kjaergaard had laid the ball off perfectly – for 3-1 (72'). The game was then sealed by Ratkov, who had been relatively quiet up to that point, but he eluded his markers in the box and, after a perfect pass from Yorbe Vertessen, simply had to tap it in (81').

Leitner in the Ried goal made a crucial save to deny Baidoo a second goal, and Sollbauer cleared the ball off the line after a shot from Kjaergaard, and it remained 4-1 to our lads.

Our next competitive match is coming up on Thursday, when the Go Ahead Eagles visit the Red Bull Arena for the fourth matchday of the UEFA Europa League group stage. Tickets for this match are still available online in our Ticket Shop

We got off to a perfect start and were really sharp in the first ten minutes. But then we made the mistake of letting the opponent back into the game with some silly lossses of possession in our own defensive third – that's frustrating. However, I also have to say that we could have scored one or two more goals after the sending-off. Of course, the win feels good though, and I'm happy!

Thomas Letsch

I'm incredibly grateful for the trust placed in me, and equally happy about the three points! I was only nervous before going to sleep - otherwise, I was really looking forward to my debut. We were clinical in front of goal and didn't allow many chances. The red card played into our hands – but we also played the situation well!
