Sunderland have resolved a season ticket dispute for Karen Jacques and her family, with her mother, Sylvia Pickard, and another relative relocating to Block U1 next season as the club works through individual renewal concerns raised by supporters.
According to Sunderland Echo, the club has contacted fans after complaints about moves between corporate and general admission seating, direct debit problems and the renewal process, with some cases still open but progress in recent weeks.
Mrs Jacques, 62, previously explained that her mother could receive a free over-85s season ticket after holding one for more than three years, but the concession did not apply in corporate areas, leaving the family facing a "£2,000-plus" bill to remain. They feared losing their season tickets if they left their area.
The club first suggested concourse seats and spots near the front, options the family declined due to stairs and weather exposure. A later offer of two seats in Block U1 was accepted after a visit.
Mrs Jacques said the family are pleased with the outcome, though she felt an earlier response, before tickets were released to the waiting list, might have secured seats together and fewer stairs for her mother.
In a separate case, long-serving supporter Steven Poppleton received an apology call and an offer of general admission seats for next season after RAWA raised his situation, which followed the death of his father, George. The club told RAWA it would review cases and has since moved on some.
