Sunderland have reached a full agreement with Toulouse to sign Dayann Methalie, with the 20-year-old left-back set for a medical ahead of a five-year contract.

Sunderland Echo understands the deal is worth £25.7m, comprising £24m guaranteed and a further £1.7m in add-ons. He is expected on Wearside later today, with medical checks within 24 hours before the remaining formalities are completed.

The France youth international has been a long-term target and had already agreed to make the move, remaining keen to join Régis Le Bris’ side throughout negotiations.

Sunderland saw several bids rejected by Toulouse, including a larger overall package. The clubs then settled on a structure with more guaranteed money and less tied to instalments and add-ons, enabling a breakthrough.

Barring any late issues with the medical or final paperwork, completion is expected shortly. His arrival will strengthen left-back options for a season that will include Premier League and Europa League football, following weeks of talks and a firm negotiating stance from Sunderland officials.
