Sunderland and Coventry City have signed defenders as Premier League clubs continue to reshape squads ahead of the new season.

Arsenal have signed Illan Meslier on a free and made Piero Hincapie’s switch permanent for £25m. Leandro Trossard has joined Besiktas for £15.3m, with further departures including Jakub Kiwior and Karl Hein after loans.

Aston Villa brought in Johan Manzambi from Freiburg for £50m and Modou Keba Cisse on a pre-contract. Youri Tielemans left for Manchester United in a £35m deal, and Morgan Rogers is heading to Chelsea for £117m.

Bournemouth signed Alvaro Rodriguez from Elche for £21m. Marcos Senesi has joined Tottenham after his contract expired, other exits include loans to Fiorentina and Mothewell, and ex-boss Andoni Iraola is now Liverpool head coach.

Brentford have added Jannik Schuster for £17.2m, Jaidon Anthony for £17m and Callum Wilson on a free transfer. Departures include Reiss Nelson’s loan return, Frank Onyeka to Coventry City and several loans.
