As Sunday’s Tyne-Wear derby at St James’ Park approaches, FBref reports that Newcastle average 52,093 this season, with Sunderland on 46,323, placing them eighth and ninth in the Premier League attendance table.
Sunderland are seeking a league double over Eddie Howe’s side after December’s 1-0 home win, decided by Nick Woltemade’s own goal.
The Black Cats’ figure is more than 7,000 up on 2024/25, their best since 2001/02 at 46,745 and the fourth-highest in their history.
Both clubs sit just behind Everton on 52,110 at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium, while Manchester United lead on 73,962, ahead of West Ham on 62,454 and Tottenham on 60,900. Liverpool average 60,368 and Arsenal 60,216, with Manchester City on 52,198.
Chelsea, Aston Villa and Leeds follow, their capacities short of the North East pair. Tottenham’s crowd remains notable given their shock relegation battle. Both fanbases are known for their volume, home and away.
