Sunderland head into hostile territory at St James’ Park on Sunday, with attendances for both clubs among the Premier League’s biggest and setting the tone for the Tyne-Wear derby. They are chasing a league double after December’s 1-0 win at the Stadium of Light, sealed by Nick Woltemade’s own goal.

Per FBref, Newcastle are averaging 52,093 per week this season, with Sunderland ninth on 46,323. The Black Cats’ figure is more than 7,000 up on 2024/25, their highest since 2001/02 at 46,745 and the fourth-highest in their history.

Everton sit just ahead on 52,110 at the brand new Hill Dickinson Stadium. Chelsea, Aston Villa and Leeds United trail the North East pair, with smaller capacities than either club.

At the top of the attendance table, Manchester United lead on 73,962 per week, with West Ham United second on 62,454.

Tottenham Hotspur’s 60,900 stands out too, given they are still drawing big numbers despite being embroiled in a shock relegation battle.
