In a recent report, journalist Fraser Fletcher mentioned that Sunderland are among the clubs hoping to land Aston Villa forward Tammy Abraham. It has been claimed that the Black Cats would have to compete with Everton and Leeds United in the race to sign the English striker this summer.

Since arriving from Besiktas in January, Abraham managed to prove his worth as an important member of Unai Emery’s squad. The 28-year-old found the back of the net twice in 12 league matches for the Villans last season.

The English centre-forward can still serve as a good back-up striker in the Premier League. Therefore, it is no wonder that the Black Cats are in the race to secure his services this summer.

His current contract at Villa Park will run out in the summer of 2030, which could make it tough for Sunderland to sign him on a cut-price deal later this year.

Standing at 1.94m, the English talent can use his strong 1.94m frame to win his fair share of aerial duels. He has got enough Premier League experience under his belt and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Wearside club. However, the Aston Villa striker has to find a way to improve his numbers in front of the opponent’s goal.

Abraham would add more firepower to Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris’ attack. He is good enough to challenge for regular first-team football at the Stadium of Light next season. The English striker will also help the Wearside giants to compete across all competitions over the next few years.

At 28, Abraham is about to enter his prime, which makes him a worthy target for the Black Cats to consider in this transfer window. He would be well worth the fight, so Le Bris should focus on bringing him on board later this year.
