In a recent report, El Intransigente stated that Sunderland are expected to move in for River Plate midfielder Matias Galarza this summer. It is understood that the Black Cats are eyeing a move to bring the Paraguay international to the Stadium of Light this off-season.
Galarza enjoyed a solid loan spell at the MLS club as he put in a series of impressive displays for them in the middle of the park. The 24-year-old made 13 appearances for Atlanta United last season across all fronts.
The Paraguay international is currently among the most talented midfielders in his homeland. Thus, Sunderland would do well to lure him to the Stadium of Light this off-season.
His current contract at his parent club, River Plate, will expire at the end of 2028, which could make it tough for the Black Cats to sign him on the cheap later this year.

Galarza is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when required and is a tidy passer as well.
Standing at 1.75m, the Paraguayan talent could be a bit weak in the air but is full of energy and running at the centre of the park. Galarza is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also play in the number ten position or as a left-winger if asked to do so. However, there are some concerns over whether he would be able to cope with the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League if the Black Cats manage to sign him this off-season.
We can expect Galarza to enhance the quality of Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris’ midfield. He is capable of fighting for a regular first-team spot at the Stadium of Light next season.
At 24, Galarza has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a worthy target for the Wearside club to pursue in this transfer period. Hence, Le Bris would be wise to snap him up later this year. However, Sunderland have to give him some time to adjust to life in England before they can get the best out of him in English football.
