In a recent report, Sky Sports News’ Keith Downie revealed that Sunderland are in talks to recruit Toulouse full-back Dayann Methalie. It has been mentioned that the Black Cats are eager to get a deal done for the French talent this off-season.

Methalie’s Impressive Form In French Football

Methalie enjoyed a solid campaign at the French club in the previous campaign when he produced a string of impressive displays for them in Ligue 1. The 20-year-old found the back of the net twice and earned two assists in 30 matches for Toulouse last season in various competitions.

The French sensation is currently one of the most talented full-backs in Ligue 1. Hence, it is no surprise that the Black Cats are showing interest in signing him later this year.

His current contract with Toulouse will expire in the summer of 2030, which could make it tough for Sunderland to land him on a cut-price deal in this transfer window.

What Will Methalie Bring To Sunderland?

Methalie is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn possession back for his team on the defensive end of the field. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and is a tidy passer as well.

The French talent can strike the ball with power from long range and has got the vision to create the odd chance for others around him from the left flank. Methalie is primarily a left-back but can also fill in as a central defender or as a left-sided wide player if told to do so. However, there are some concerns over whether he can adapt to the physical style and high intensity of the Premier League if the Black Cats manage to sign him this summer.

We can expect Methalie to bring more quality and depth to Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris’ defence. He is good enough to compete for a regular first-team spot at the Wearside club in the coming seasons.

At 20, the future looks quite bright for Methalie as long as he continues to improve with each year. However, Le Bris has to be patient with his development before he can get the best out of the player.
