Sunderland are on the verge of sealing a deal for Sassuolo forward Armand Lauriente, according to Le Parisien.
Lauriente has been a long-standing target for Sunderland, and he is keen on a move to Wearside in search of Premier League football.
Negotiations between Sunderland and Sassuolo have progressed rapidly in recent days, with a full agreement now reportedly close.
The move would represent a significant coup, as Lauriente delivered an outstanding 2024/25 season in Serie B, bagging 18 goals and five assists across 33 appearances.
The 26-year-old was named Serie B Player of the Year, helping Sassuolo secure a return to the Italian top flight.
Known for his combination of pace, close control and finishing ability, Lauriente is highly rated for his direct attacking style and versatility across the front line.
Lauriente’s impending arrival at the Stadium of Light would reunite him with Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris and sporting director Florent Ghisolfi, both of whom previously worked with him at Lorient.
Their existing relationship has reportedly played a role in convincing Lauriente to choose Sunderland despite interest from other clubs in England and Europe.
Sunderland have already invested over £100 million in new signings this summer and are still targeting a couple more acquisitions.
The Black Cats’ aggressive business during the transfer window underlines their ambition to avoid a relegation battle and establish themselves in the top tier of English football.
