Sunderland fans hail 1937-inspired Hummel home kit as collar, crest and black socks draw praise | OneFootball

Sunderland supporters have widely welcomed the club's new home kit after its unveiling on Tuesday.

According to Sunderland Echo, the Hummel design is inspired by the 1937 FA Cup-winning strip and goes on sale at 8am on Wednesday.

Traditional red-and-white stripes are paired with a button-up collar and a retro crest. Those throwback touches shaped early social media reaction, with many placing it among Hummel's strongest since returning to Wearside.

Fans singled out the collar in particular and some labelled the overall look a masterpiece. Others suggested it might pip the popular Championship home shirt and called it another standout Hummel effort that could become an all-time classic.

The return of black shorts and socks also landed well, with supporters imagining how the kit would look under the lights against Italian opposition. One fan even asked whether Europa League name sets will be available for the campaign, while another linked the launch to recent retro drops such as the Elvis top and hoped for good luck in the Premier League and in Europe.

Not everyone was convinced. Some felt the crest colour should have matched the original 1937 blue, while another argued the badge spoiled the design and preferred last season's kits, including the pink change strip.
