Sunderland opened their 2026/27 campaign with a slick first-half show at York City, racing 4-0 ahead as Enzo Le Fee struck twice.
At the LNER Community Stadium, Régis Le Bris selected one XI per half, an experienced line-up setting the tone before an academy-heavy side came on, Sunderland Echo reports.
Le Fee finished first time to start the scoring, then Trai Hume teed up Chris Rigg for the second. Timur Tutierov added the third, and Le Fee again swept home before the break.
York moved the ball neatly at times, yet Sunderland’s superior quality told in the final third.
Nordi Mukiele impressed at centre-back, rated eight after two sliding tackles that sparked chances, one leading to Le Fee’s goal. Captain Luke O'Nien was assured and earned seven.
Hume was strong on the ball, involved in the opener and provider for Rigg, also given seven. Goalkeeper Melker Ellborg had little work, made a sharp back-post block before an offside flag, and received six.
