Sunderland are in talks with Türkiye’s Super Lig club Eyüpspor over a potential move for striker Ahmed Abdullahi.

Sunderland Echo understands that discussions over the 22-year-old are ongoing after he was left out of Régis Le Bris’ first-team squad for Saturday’s 5-1 pre-season win at York City. He instead played for the under-21s against South Shields, indicating his current standing.

The Nigerian forward joined from Belgian side Gent in August 2024 on a four-year contract at the Stadium of Light. A run of injuries has so far prevented a competitive senior appearance for the Black Cats.

Abdullahi previously spent time on trial with Marseille and Borussia Dortmund in 2021 before moving to Gent. He has represented Nigeria at under-20 level and was selected for the 2023 Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations.

His route into the first team now looks limited, with Brian Brobbey and Wilson Isidor among the senior striking options ahead of him. Young forward Trey Ogunsuyi has also featured in pre-season, while Premier League, domestic cup and European commitments could open chances across the wider squad.

A switch to Eyüpspor could offer regular senior football after a frustrating spell on Wearside. No agreement has been finalised, with the Super Lig side exploring a deal for the Sunderland striker.
