In a recent report, journalist Alan Nixon stated that Sunderland keeper Robin Roefs is on the radar of Chelsea this summer. It is understood that the Blues are hoping to acquire the services of the Dutch custodian from the Black Cats this off-season.
The 23-year-old is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury. However, he has put in a string of solid displays in goal for the Black Cats this season. Roefs has made 30 appearances for Sunderland this season, conceding 35 goals and earning nine clean sheets in the process across multiple competitions.
The Dutch talent is currently among the most promising young keepers in the Premier League. Therefore, Sunderland would find it tough to fend off Chelsea’s interest and retain the services of the talented keeper this summer.
His current contract at the Stadium of Light will run out in the summer of 2030, so Sunderland will be under no immediate pressure to cash in on him in this upcoming transfer window.

Roefs is a solid handler of the ball and can use his quick reflexes to make some top saves at the back for his team when he is playing well on the field. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can use his strong 1.93m frame to dominate his penalty area with authority when defending corners and set-pieces.
The Dutch talent has got a wealth of experience in the Premier League. Hence, it is no surprise that he has garnered the attention of a top club like Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer window.
When fit, Roefs is one of the first names in Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris’s teamsheet. He remains one of the most important members of the Wearside club’s match-day squad. However, every player has a price. If Sunderland receive a big offer for him this summer, Le Bris will be powerless to stop the player from leaving.
At 23, Roefs has his peak years ahead of him. He has already proven his worth in the Premier League. Therefore, Lef Bris should not consider cutting him loose unless he receives a big offer for his services at the end of this campaign.
