Sunderland have been linked with Napoli midfielder Frank Zambo Anguissa as the summer transfer window opens, with a former Napoli player claiming he is more complete than Kevin De Bruyne.
The 67-cap Cameroon international is entering the final year of his Napoli deal after an option was triggered, though reports suggest talks on fresh terms have stalled. AreaNapoli reports Sunderland would need around €20m, and adds that AC Milan, who will be in next season’s Europa League, are monitoring.
Anguissa, formerly of Fulham, joined Napoli on loan before a permanent move in summer 2022. He has since won Serie A twice and made 24 appearances across the Champions League and Europa League.
Gaetano Fontana was asked to choose between Anguissa and De Bruyne. “Anguissa, all my life. Because he’s a complete, versatile player, capable of playing in both phases of the game,” he told Tutto Napoli.
“De Bruyne is an extraordinary champion, but a player of his experience must bring added value to the team. For this reason, if I had to choose, I’d choose Anguissa without a doubt.”
