Sunderland held talks with The Red & White Army this week amid widespread anger over the club’s ticketing experience, and will contact supporters affected by renewal problems to offer solutions.

Sunderland Echo reports that interim CEO Tom Burwell attended, with the club accepting the need to improve the system. It will reach out to those directly impacted by 5pm on Tuesday, 12 May.

While 96% of fans renewed for 2026/27, many raised serious concerns about the process and their dealings with the club when trying to resolve personal difficulties. Long-standing season-ticket holders were told they could not return to general admission after corporate hospitality prices surged. Those declining corporate renewals faced the back of a 15,000-strong waiting list.

The supporters’ group had earlier urged a pause to renewals after widespread difficulties across the Stadium of Light, then voiced disappointment at the lack of a final response. The meeting also covered Newcastle United ticket cancellations, and the club will continue working with supporter groups to improve the experience.

In March, 65 tickets for the Tyne-Wear derby were cancelled, which the club later described as a serious and exceptional instance of misuse. Those involved acknowledged the breach and appropriate action followed, though some supporters were affected through no fault of their own.
