Sunderland have opened contract talks with 18-year-old striker Finn Geragusian as they try to fend off Rangers and interest from several EFL clubs.
Sunderland Echo understands that the versatile forward, who can also play from the right, is out of contract this summer and discussions are under way, with no final decision on his future.
Geragusian has drawn attention after another productive academy season. He scored 13 goals and supplied three assists in 29 appearances across all competitions, following 12 goals and seven assists in 31 games in 2024-25, taking him to 35 goal contributions in 60 matches over two years.
He made his senior Armenia debut earlier this season, qualifying through his father. Clubs are monitoring his situation and he could be available this summer if he declines new terms, with any move requiring compensation or a possible tribunal due to his age and academy development.
Sunderland’s Academy of Light retains a strong record of promoting youth, but promotion to the Premier League has altered the immediate first-team picture, with senior minutes now harder to secure.
Geragusian must weigh staying on Wearside, continuing his development and potentially using loans towards the first team, against moving where the pathway to senior football may look more straightforward in the short term.
A thigh injury sidelined him for the closing stages of the under-21s’ season and the Premier League Cup final defeat to Burnley at the Stadium of Light.
