Sunderland enter Sunday’s Tyne-Wear derby with contract talks under way for Bertrand Traoré. Wilson Isidor’s international choice, Luís Hemir’s situation and derby travel plans feature.
A Bola reports that Moreirense left Sunderland loanee Hemir out of the warm-up and match at FC Porto after behaviour the club viewed as inappropriate. Coach Vasco Botelho said team standards come first and tough calls can help players grow.
Head coach Régis Le Bris said talks with Traoré and sporting director Florent Ghisolfi have begun, but it is too early to decide on extending his one-year deal. He is sidelined after a knee injury at the Africa Cup of Nations and a recurrence at Elland Road, and is expected to be out for another month.
Sunderland’s 2024-25 accounts show a £1.1m operating loss, around £7m better than the previous year, with turnover £40.3m. Gate receipts reached £13.3m, player sales brought in £45m, staff costs rose above £50m, £10m went on facilities, and £47,346,348 has been committed since the period.
Chief financial officer Mike Papadimitriou said the results underline strong revenues and the club’s foundations in stadium, support and city ties.
Isidor confirmed he will represent Haiti, saying he took time to reflect before accepting the call-up and is proud to do so.
Away fans arriving at Newcastle Central Station will be escorted by police to St James’ Park. The main escort leaves at 10.15am for a 12pm kick-off, with warnings of busy services and queues.
