Sunderland have opened talks over Bertrand Traoré’s future, while new club accounts have been published ahead of Sunday’s Tyne-Wear derby.

According to Sunderland Echo, Régis Le Bris said talks are under way and no decision has been made after Traoré spoke with sporting director Florent Ghisolfi. He joined from Ajax on deadline day on a one-year deal with an option.

Traoré became central to Le Bris’s attack before injury followed his Africa Cup of Nations departure. He sustained a knee problem with Burkina Faso, then a recurrence at Elland Road, and is expected to be out for roughly another month, with hope he features late on.

The 2024-25 accounts show an operating loss of £1.1m, turnover of £40.3m and gate receipts up 14.3% to £13.3m. Player sales brought around £45m profit, staff costs rose above £50m, close to £10m went into facilities, and since the window closed transfer commitments total £47,346,348.

Striker Wilson Isidor said in a post that he will represent Haiti, explaining he took time to reflect and is proud to join the Grenadiers.

In Portugal, A Bola reports disciplinary issues for loanee Luís Hemir at Moreirense after he was unused against Porto and skipped the warm-up. Coach Vasco Botelho said team standards come first.

Away fans will be escorted by police from Newcastle Central Station to St James’ Park. The main escort leaves at 10.15am ahead of the 12pm kick-off, with warnings of busy transport and queues.
