Sunderland reveal 2026/27 hummel goalkeeper kits honouring Jimmy Montgomery | OneFootball

Sunderland have unveiled a bespoke trio of 2026/27 hummel goalkeeper kits celebrating club legend Jimmy Montgomery, the 1973 hero and record appearance holder with 627.

Scott McCubbin, the club’s chief commercial officer, said Montgomery is woven into Sunderland’s identity and that the collection sets standards for any goalkeeper who wears the shirt, aiming to reflect the weight of his legacy.

The home design revisits the green and red worn by Montgomery in the 1973 Wembley win over Leeds United.

His signature features at the back of the neck on all three shirts, and the away option is yellow with the motif repeated.

The third strip is orange, carries the old ship crest, and includes a darker orange “627” to mark his club-record games.

The launch follows wider recognition of Montgomery’s impact, with the West Stand renamed The Jimmy Montgomery stand ahead of the 2025/26 season.

A new statue is commissioned for the end of Legend’s Way and is expected to be installed sometime in early 2027, with Bob Stokoe’s statue to be moved alongside in tribute to their iconic 1973 celebration.
