Sunderland are preparing for their first Europa League campaign after finishing seventh in the Premier League, capping one of their standout recent seasons. It brings only the second European qualification in the club’s history, with the Stadium of Light set to host continental football for the first time.
Régis Le Bris’ side sealed the spot by beating Chelsea at home on Sunday, then profited as Brentford and Brighton and Hove Albion dropped points. Liverpool and Manchester United denied those rivals, confirming Sunderland’s place. Betfair have also released early prices for next season.
Last summer’s recruitment underpinned the surge, and there is a need for further strengthening during the close-season as the hierarchy look to give Le Bris a squad capable of handling a heavier schedule. Potential opponents could include Olympique Marseille, Bayer Leverkusen, AC Milan and Juventus.
Arsenal are 1/14, Manchester City 2/9, Liverpool 2/5 and Manchester United 4/9 to make the 2026/27 top four. Sunderland are 66/1, behind Chelsea at 11/10, Aston Villa 5/2, Newcastle United 15/2 and Tottenham Hotspur 8/1.
In the relegation market, Hull City are 1/4, Coventry City 8/13 and Ipswich Town 4/6, with Sunderland 2/1. Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Fulham are 11/2, Nottingham Forest 6/1, Brentford 7/1, AFC Bournemouth and Everton 9/1, while Manchester City are 14/1 and Brighton and Hove Albion 22/1.
