Sunderland Echo reports that Régis Le Bris has made one change to his Sunderland starting side for Sunday’s meeting with Everton. Nilson Angulo comes in for Chemsdine Talbi, his first start since a hamstring injury sustained in training before March’s defeat to Brighton. He returned from the bench against Manchester United last week and will operate from his preferred left flank, having often featured on the right since arriving in January.

Trai Hume keeps his spot on the right of midfield, with Lutsharel Geertruida continuing at right back.

Le Bris has not recalled Bertrand Traoré to the squad, with Jocelin Ta Bi remaining among the substitutes. The head coach said on Thursday he is pleased with the experienced winger’s progress, but that his recovery has not been as straightforward as Angulo’s or Ta Bi’s.

He explained the squad is fully available, so a call was required last week, and that Traoré’s route back differs from Jocelin and Nilson because it was a re-injury. He said he probably needed more time to feel comfortable selecting him and had a clear, honest conversation with the player.

Le Bris added that managing a re-injury is not easy and, with Traoré’s knee issue being new for him, extra caution was appropriate. He said this week had been much better and more consistent.

Sunderland XI: Roefs, Geertruida, Mukiele, Alderete, Reinildo, Xhaka, Sadiki, Le Fee, Hume, Angulo, Brobbey. Subs: Ellborg, Cirkin, O’Nien, Mayenda, Isidor, Talbi, Ta Bi, Diarra, Rigg.
