Sunderland are weighing up Lutsharel Geertruida’s future after his season on loan, with the defender drawing interest from the Premier League and Europe.
SportsBoom reports that Liverpool still like the Netherlands international, with Aston Villa, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace also in the mix. Interest from Italy, Germany, France and Spain is noted, and a decision is described as ‘looming’.
Geertruida, capped 20 times by the Netherlands, joined from RB Leipzig last summer and made 30 appearances as Regis Le Bris’ side finished seventh to reach the Europa League.
He started the final three matches of the campaign, but Sunderland have yet to activate a reported £20 million purchase clause agreed last August.
There was January talk of Liverpool making a late-window enquiry. At the time, Le Bris praised Geertruida’s versatility and called his situation complex given his value to the squad. He said the push to become a regular and thoughts of the World Cup also played a part, adding that the decision to sign was not clearly defined.
