The club said in a statement that her arrival reflects an ambition to build sustainable foundations for long-term success on and off the pitch.

She will take charge of all sporting and football operations, oversee recruitment, connect the first team and academy pathway, and drive the club’s football vision.

Skinner, formerly a WSL head coach with Spurs and West Ham United, expressed strong belief in the new owners’ vision and enthusiasm for the next phase, aiming to help take the team back to where it belongs.

She will work alongside Bay Collective’s chief executive Kay Cossington to put robust structures and an elite environment in place.

Skinner highlighted the North East’s rich, historically unrivalled talent pool in the women’s game and sees a major opportunity to harness it for Sunderland’s benefit.

The role carries personal meaning too, with her mother from the region.

Cossington hailed the hire, citing Skinner’s more than 25 years’ experience across elite club and international football, and her alignment with a sustainable, ambitious build.

The appointment also reinforces the club’s drive to install the structures, leadership and long-term vision required to compete at the highest level and secure a stable future.
