Sunderland Women have received contrasting contract updates for 2026/27, with striker Eleanor Dale turning down a new deal while academy full-back Jessica Brown signs on.
Head coach Mel Reay said she was delighted with Brown’s decision and described her as a modern, attacking full-back who brings energy and quality, adding that she reflects the club’s standards and ambition and that they are excited to see her continue to develop.
Dale was offered fresh terms this summer but is set to move on for a new opportunity after two seasons on Wearside. She joined from Everton in 2024 and was prolific in her first campaign, a central figure in the side’s strong mid-season run. Injury issues affected her impact last term, though the club had been keen to keep her.
The 24-year-old leaves at the end of her contract having made 37 appearances and scored 17 goals.
Brown has agreed a one-year deal. Dale is among the few offered new terms to depart, with Katie Kitching, Brianna Westrup and Natasha Fenton among those to extend their stays. Summer recruitment will be led by Rehanne Skinner, appointed technical director by new owners Bay Collective earlier this week.
