Sunderland’s Premier League return has outstripped expectations, and, according to Sunderland Echo, the club’s revamped squad is now assessed for market value, from its top 10 players to how it stacks up against rivals. Regis Le Bris and his side resume after the international break chasing European football for only the second time in the club’s history.
Momentum from the Championship play-off final win over Sheffield United carried into an opening-day victory against West Ham United, when Eliezer Mayenda, Wilson Isidor and Dan Ballard scored. Results followed against Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and AFC Bournemouth, while they drew with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City. A December home win over Newcastle United came via a Nick Woltemade own goal, before Chemsdine Talbi and Brian Brobbey sealed a 2-1 comeback on Tyneside earlier this month.
Seven games remain as Sunderland target a top seven finish that would bring a first European place since 1973. They visit Aston Villa, Wolves and Everton, and host Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United and Chelsea.
Top 10 by valuation: €32.00m Habib Diarra, €30.00m Noah Sadiki, €25.00m Brian Brobbey, Enzo Le Fee, Chemsdine Talbi and Chris Rigg, €22.00m Trai Hume, €20.00m Lutsharel Geertruida and Dan Ballard, €18.00m Nordi Mukiele.
Premier League squad values place Manchester City first on €1.31bn, then Arsenal on €1.23bn, Chelsea on €1.16bn, Liverpool on €1.02bn and Tottenham Hotspur on €802.50m. Sunderland rank 16th at €381.95m, behind Fulham €386.95m and Everton €450.45m, and ahead of West Ham €362.65m, Leeds United €346.03m, Wolves €277.10m and Burnley €252.65m.
