The FA released figures showing Sunderland paid £10,627,772 in agent fees between February 2025 and February 2026, around five times their £2,170,045 outlay in their final Championship season.

The data covers the two transfer windows since promotion at Wembley, including a major summer rebuild and a series of contract renewals agreed across the year.

Even so, it was among the division's smallest totals. Only Burnley, at £7,357,902, and Everton, at £9,990,374, spent less. Leeds United, also promoted, paid £13,990,935.

Sunderland's figure trailed several clubs around them in the table. Bournemouth spent £20,883,523, Brighton £19,520,800, and Newcastle United a little over £20 million.

Chelsea led Premier League spending on intermediaries with £65,102,247, and the league-wide total reached £460,300,308. Sunderland's 17 signings are included, as are renewal fees for Trai Hume, Eliezer Mayenda, Luke O'Nien and Chris Rigg, and any deal involving an FA-registered agent.
