According to L'Équipe, Sunderland left-back Arthur Masuaku is due to join RC Lens on a six-month loan early next week, with no option to buy.

Lens want to give themselves the best chance of finishing on the Ligue 1 podium and have moved for the Congolese international.

A spate of injuries, plus Deiver Machado’s departure to Nantes, pushed the hierarchy and head coach Pierre Sage to seek an experienced defender with knowledge of the league.

Masuaku brings 10 years in the professional game, fitting that brief.

The 32-year-old sustained an injury during the Africa Cup of Nations but is fit to play soon.
