Sunderland’s home support continues to stand out, with an average crowd of 46,247, their highest since 2001/02 and fourth-best ever. The figure is more than 7,000 up on 2024/25 as Regis Le Bris’ side host Fulham this weekend.
The feelgood factor survived a first Premier League home loss last week, a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool. Virgil van Dijk’s 61st-minute header on Wednesday ended a 12-match unbeaten run at the Stadium of Light, where Sunderland had been the division’s last unbeaten home team.
Transfermarkt reports that the average ranks ninth in the Premier League, ahead of Aston Villa and Chelsea. It remains below Newcastle United’s 52,053, with Everton at 52,018.
Manchester United lead the league for crowds on 73,981, more than 11,000 clear of West Ham’s 62,453 at the London Stadium. Tottenham draw 60,912, Liverpool 60,393 and Arsenal 60,213.
There are no immediate plans to expand the Stadium of Light, but its capacity keeps Sunderland competitive on the attendance tables. Fulham’s Craven Cottage holds 28,800 after expansion and the visitors average 27,132.
