Sunderland face another important summer as Regis Le Bris readies his squad for the club’s first Europa League campaign, earned by last season’s seventh-placed Premier League finish. It is only their second foray into Europe, the first since the 1973 FA Cup winners contested the Cup Winners’ Cup.

According to Transfermarkt, Sunderland’s squad is valued at €386.43m, ranking 15th among Premier League clubs. Everton are just ahead on €443.15m, with Leeds United at €358.80m, while Manchester City lead on €1.32bn ahead of Arsenal on €1.25bn and Chelsea on €1.11bn. Hull City are bottom at €95.90m.

Last summer’s overhaul underpinned the surge, with club-record deals for midfielders Enzo Le Fee and Habib Diarra. Getafe defender Omar Alderete arrived, Dutch duo Robin Roefs and Brian Brobbey were signed, and Granit Xhaka returned to the Premier League after his Bayer Leverkusen stint.

This window is unlikely to be as hectic as 12 months ago, but further strengthening is understood to be required if Sunderland are to build on a memorable campaign. Their estimated squad value has risen markedly since promotion, underlining progress.

Attention now turns to fine-tuning Le Bris’ group for the demands of Europe and the Premier League.
