Brian Brobbey has three for the Netherlands. Granit Xhaka, linked with a move to Chelsea in recent days, has scored while captaining Switzerland. Nilson Angulo netted as Ecuador stunned Germany to reach the knockouts.

Wilson Isidor thumped in a long-range stunner in defeat, and is now heading home before turning to pre-season. On Friday evening, Habib Diarra finished from close range in Senegal’s comprehensive win against Iraq. His effort made Sunderland joint leaders for group-stage goals alongside Palace.

By club totals, Sunderland and Crystal Palace are on seven. Newcastle United, Arsenal and Manchester United have five. Liverpool and Manchester City have four, Wolverhampton Wanderers three, Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham United two, and Aston Villa, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur one.

Erling Haaland leads the Premier League contingent on four for Norway. The three-goal group features Brobbey, Ismaila Sarr, Matheus Cunha and Yoane Wissa.

With many Sunderland players preparing for knockout ties over the coming days, their influence at the tournament could continue to grow.
